Service Description

Looking to hit the trails no matter what the weather? Join us for a 6-week trail dog class and learn all there is to know about braving New England winter conditions. Each week we will have a guided, educational pack hike at various local trails in Central Massachusetts. You’ll learn everything you need to know about hiking with your dog, from gear to trail skills to navigation, and everything in between. Our Winter Session Trail Dog Class will be specifically tailored to getting you and your dog ready to safely hike year round. This class is taught jointly by two experienced all-season dog hikers, Veronica of VK Dog Training and Rebekah of Adventures in Dog Town. Who’s eligible: anyone and their dog! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about your dog’s suitability. *This is not a playgroup - all dogs will be given space from other dogs. Cost: $240/dog What we’ll be covering: Trail etiquette Preparedness and safety on the trail Appropriate winter gear and how to dress for all types of winter weather How to get your dog in shape for longer adventures First aid, pest prevention/care How to assess winter trail conditions and how to know when to stay home What to bring: Water for both the human and dog Water bowl 6 foot non retractable leash (retractables and long lines are welcome, but we'll start out with short leashes) Warm hiking shoes/boots Treats We will have first aid gear on hand just in case, but you are encouraged to bring your own Dog booties (optional) Paw wax (we’ll have extra) Dog coat for dogs who get cold easily Hikes will be 1 to 1.5 hours, moderately paced, and on non-flat terrain. You don’t have to be an athlete to join, but please be aware that this may be too strenuous for more sedentary senior dogs, developing puppies, or dogs with physical limitations.
